Planting Apple Trees
March 29th, 2005 DanI laid out planting spots 15′ apart for three semi-dwarf apple trees. Two Honey Crisp and one Stark Jon-a-Red. Instead of enriching the planting hole with amendments, I cultivated a larger area about the size of the future basin.

After breaking up the soil to about a foot deep, I applied dolomite lime (our soil is on the acid side), Milorganite, bone meal and a commercial compost. I hoed these amendments into the top 6″-8″.

A long wet spell is predicted, so after preparing the areas, I covered them with plastic. I want loose soil to plant in…the trees should arrive around April 8.
