Pond Photos 3![]() When ice starts to form on the pond, a very small bubbler pump is placed on the first shelf in front of the skimmer. This helps to keep the skimmer open and water circulating through the system. ![]() The ice "sculptures" formed by the waterfall transform daily as the temperature fluctuates - and add interest to the winter landscape. ![]() Here the pond has been frozen over for weeks and the stream is hidden under an almost solid layer of ice. There is visible water at the BioFalls and a bit starting down into the ice tunnel. The sound of the falls is still pleasant, though muffled. ![]() Keeping an ice-free area in front of the skimmer is important. When the temperature is well below zero, both the bubbler pump and a small pond heater (green-barely visible) are needed to keep the ice thawed. ![]() This photo shows the surrounding plants making good growth, but the marginal plants (those growing on the first shelf of the pond, are just getting started. ![]() This photo shows the marginal plants filling much of the first shelf. Enjoying the pond in the spring, summer and fall months makes the investment and the maintenance all worth while. |
