Photo ImagesPhoto images provide the client with a visual confirmation of concepts presented in the blueprint. Though not required for accurate site layout and planting, many clients appreciate the images for this verification, and for inspiration - seeing the present site digitally "landscaped" offers encouragement for the client to proceed with the project. Because of the two dimensional limitation, photo images cannot be expected to serve as a stand alone landscape design.
The planting bed in front of the house had already been defined by the driveway, but the steep slope on the south side of the house required the construction of two block walls, forming a two tiered bed. The heavy clay soil was amended with additional soil and commercial compost.
Evergreens shown here include a weeping spruce, a weeping juniper, three chamaecyparis and (part of) a torulosa juniper. Both red leaf and dwarf pygmy barberry, potentilla and ginnala maple (in the back on the lower level) are the deciduous shrubs. The ornamental grass is miscanthus. The following photos show part of this bed from the opposite direction.
The obvious serious erosion here necessitated terracing. We decided on two shorter walls instead of one tall one. Fortunately the rains held off while the soil was worked and planted.
Shown in this photo-depiction is the ginnala maple, meserveae holly, euonymus , barberry, miscanthus and the torulosa juniper, with spiraea blooming on the lower level. In the background is Schweitzer Mountain. This project was planted almost exactly as designed and should look very similar to this in four or five years. Though these plants look somewhat "sheared," a more natural, informal appearance could be achieved by a looser pruning style.
