Landscape InstallationClearwater Landscapes' installation techniques are based on the need to work with natural forces. By providing the proper physical environment for each plant, the possibility for long-term health is maximized. The soil profile is improved by the addition of composts and other organic materials - this improvement is best over general areas, not in the planting hole. The following photos show some of the processes of landscape installation. This was one of my last landscaping projects...after 30 years of work, I'll let the younger folks take over! Of critical importance in the landscaping process is advance planning; the work is just too physically demanding and expensive to have to do it more than once. Understand each phase of the job and how it relates to the project as a whole. Extra care and expense devoted to soil improvement will pay for itself in enhanced plant health and vigor. See Also

![]() The soil has been worked and rough graded; the sprinkler system is installed. The builder somehow managed to site the house lower than the road, necessitating a very tricky design and installation job. We hid the septic tank cover under several inches of bark mulch. The edging is commercial grade vinyl in twenty foot lengths. |
![]() After the plants are in, geotextile fabric is installed in the beds to insure that weeding chores are kept to a minimum. The final grade of planting beds should be at least 3" lower than lawn grade to accomodate bark. Because of the grade problem, we had to channel all the drainage from the front yard (at top) around this side of the house. Drainage swales in lawn areas should be designed as wide and as shallow as possible. |
After a long hard day, the crew gets the easy chores. Note the ginnala maple near the foreground is already turning red in September. When we're done with the planting beds, the lawn areas will receive the final grade and finish. The pyrimidal evergreens are Wichita Blue Juniper. |
